TriStar Summit

Hermitage, Tenn. (October 20, 1016) - The pharmacy department at Tristar Summit Medical Center is excited to announce the establishment of a PGY-1 Pharmacy Practice Residency program beginning in July 2017. This 12 month program will seek to build on the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education for two highly motivated pharmacy graduates and contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients. Residents graduating from our program will be eligible for board certification, postgraduate year two (PGY-2) pharmacy residency training, or to begin a career as a confident and competent clinical pharmacy practitioner.

Paul Moore, Residency Program Director, and Alex Stephens, Residency Program Coordinator, will travel to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Mid-year Clinical meeting in Las Vegas the first week of December to recruit applicants for our inaugural residency class.

Residents will complete learning experiences in areas of clinical pharmacy practice such as critical care, emergency medicine, infectious disease/antimicrobial stewardship, internal medicine, and cardiology as well as experiences in pharmacy administration and pharmacy operations. Residents will also conduct a research or quality improvement project throughout the course of the program.

We are enthusiastic about the positive benefits that this new venture will bring for the pharmacy department, the facility, and most importantly the patients that we serve!
