TriStar Summit

HERMITAGE, Tenn. (March 19, 2015) — TriStar Summit Medical Center has been awarded The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for its total hip and total knee program. This comes after the facility requested and submitted to a thorough examination from The Joint Commission, a national healthcare accrediting body.

The Total Joint Center at TriStar Summit is an eight bed center dedicated to patients who require hip and knee replacements. The Total Joint Center consists of highly trained, board certified physicians along with a dedicated team of nursing and rehab personnel. Patients will enjoy a hotel-like setting in a private room with internet access and guest accommodations.

“Earning this certification from The Joint Commission is a direct result of our significant investment in quality for our patients who require joint replacements,” said Jeff Whitehorn, chief executive officer at TriStar Summit. “Patients who experience the Total Joint Center at TriStar Summit will receive care at the highest level and this certification helps to continue a culture of excellence. We are proud of our staff and physicians who made this certification possible.”

To earn this distinction, TriStar Summit volunteered to undergo an extensive on-site evaluation, allowing a Joint Commission surveyor to judge the facility’s performance in meeting rigorous quality and safety standards, and in demonstrating its ability to continuously evaluate and improve care. The surveyor also followed several patients through their stay at TriStar Summit to observe the quality of care and interviewed staff members and patients to gather information. In interviews, the reviewer quizzed staff on patient care protocols, sought patient opinions on their care, and examined clinical practice guidelines and patient documentation to gauge staff’s adherence to quality standards.
