Sleep Services

Sleep occupies a vital portion of a person's life. Research shows that an adequate amount of sleep is essential for overall good health and wellness.

Many people fall asleep at night with ease and wake up refreshed for the next day, but a large portion of the population is not getting their fair share of sleep. Up to 30 percent of the general population suffers from some form of sleep disorder. In a patient with medical problems, sleep disorders may be even more common.

The TriStar Summit Center for Sleep Health is devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Because of our record of clinical excellence, we have received accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Our Sleep Center is equipped with the latest technology in addition to private rooms with private baths. The Center is located within the hospital on the 7th floor in a safe and secure environment. Sleep testing is conducted 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Individuals who may benefit from the Sleep Center are those who have chronic problems falling asleep at night or staying awake during the day, as well as those who suffer from excessive snoring or breathing disturbances. The Sleep Center is capable of monitoring adults, adolescents and children.

The following disorders are treated at the TriStar Summit Center for Sleep Health:

  • Alveolar Hypoventilation - an uncommon condition that leads to inadequate air movement in the lungs even though the lungs and airways are normal.

  • Circadian Rhythm Disorders - Disruptions in a person's circadian rhythm, or internal body clock, that regulates the cycle of biological processes.

  • Gastroesophageal Reflux - Symptoms include heartburn, coughing or wheezing during sleep with frequent sore throats and or hoarseness.

  • Insomnia - defined as trouble falling asleep or staying awake.

  • Narcolepsy - Characterized by the inability to stay awake, despite a good night's sleep. Patients may experience sudden muscular weakness during periods of emotion, vivid nightmares, or momentary paralysis upon falling asleep or waking.

  • Parasomnias - Patients experience sleepwalking, severe nightmares, teething grinding, and or bedwetting.

  • Periodic Limb Movement Disorder - repetitive cramping or jerking of the legs during sleep.

  • Restless Leg Syndrome – a condition that is characterized by an irresistible urge to move to stop uncomfortable or odd sensations, it most commonly affects the legs.

  • Sleep Apnea and Snoring

Sleep & Other Medical Problems

Many other medical problems may impact sleep or may be affected by sleep disorders. If you have heart or lung disease and poor sleep, you should consider talking with your doctor about your sleep problem or arranging an evaluation by the TriStar Summit Center for Sleep Health staff physicians.
