Committee Goals for 2015

Goals for the Committee for 2015 focused on improving patient experience by streamlining diagnostic evaluation of breast biopsy and formalizing the high standards and continuous quality improvement that characterizes Radiation Therapy at TriStar Summit.

  • Streamlined Scheduling for Breast Biopsy After an Abnormal Mammogram

If the next available appointment for biopsy is more than 7 days away from date of diagnostic mammogram, Central Scheduling calls the Women’s Imaging Center directly to check for earlier timeslots. As a result, the average wait time is less than 5 days for straightforward biopsies (over 80% of all biopsies fall in this category).
  • TriStar Summit Meets American College Of Radiologists Criteria to be an accredited “Radiation Oncology Practice”

ACR sets the highest standards for patient safety and quality assurance. The surveyors scrutinized staff, equipment, and procedures, and TriStar Summit passed with flying colors.

Named One of Five Sarah Cannon at TriStar Health Screening Centers of Excellence

Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Tristar Summit named one of five Sarah Cannon at TriStar Health Screening Centers of Excellence by the Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA). The recognition underscores Tri-Star Summit’s ongoing commitment to responsible lung cancer screening. In 2015, screening was available to community members at high risk of developing lung cancer, often associated with strong history of smoking.

superDimension Technology Implemented

The superDimension technology has been implemented at TriStar Summit. Pulmonologist Toby Smith, MD, educated oncology physicians at a recent Cancer Conference about this new tool, which allows non-invasive evaluation of lung nodules in previously hard-to-reach places. “SuperD” is a keystone of Summit’s growing lung cancer program.

Colorectal Cancer Educational Event

The TriStar Summit Medical Center Oncology Program presented a Colorectal Cancer educational event to the McKendree Retirement Village residents on September 15th. Gastroenterologist Dr. Keith Finnegan provided 108 participants with information to identify their risk factors and compare the methods available to detect CRC early.
