We consistently receive phone calls, emails, letters, and comments about the positive impact our volunteers are making in the lives of patients, families, and staff members. The dedication, unending generosity, and heartfelt kindness of our volunteers is inspiring. Through their relationships and service, our volunteers demonstrate one of the most important lessons in healthcare: Regardless of a hospital’s level of expertise, credentials, technology, and rankings, the most vital element in delivering quality patient care is the compassion and dedication of those who work and volunteer there. We are proud to say TriStar Summit has all of the above.

Volunteers serve in many capacities at TriStar Summit. Our volunteers commit to a minimum of one four-hour volunteer shift, once a week, for at least a six-month period of time. We have weekday, evening, and weekend volunteer opportunities available. There are three shift times offered each day: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm; 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm; and 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm.

Below are descriptions of some of the many volunteer positions available at TriStar Summit:

Admitting: Welcome patients and visitors and assist staff by directing newly admitted patients to physician offices and hospital floors.

Floaters: Provide assistance in multiples areas of the hospital as needed. Volunteers that serve as floaters will receive training in at least the following three areas: Visitor Lobby Desk, Patient Lobby Desk, and the Waiting Rooms.

Human Resources: Provide Human Resources staff with additional support for special projects.

MICU/SICU Waiting Rooms: Distribute personal hygiene items, magazines, snacks, blankets, and other items to families in the waiting rooms. Visit with families, assist with directions, and provide general hospital information. Answer incoming calls from patient rooms, physician offices, and hospital services for visitors in the waiting rooms.

Nursery: Assist staff by stocking daily nourishments, creating care packets, restocking linens, and working on additional duties assigned by the department coordinator.

Patient Lobby Desk: Welcome our patients and visitors. Manage the information desk and transfer incoming calls to patient rooms, physician offices and hospital departments. Provide accurate directions for our patients and visitors.

Same Day Surgery: Provide support to our nursing staff and patients by restocking linens, talking with our patients, and assisting with special projects as needed.

Visitor Lobby Desk: Welcome our visitors. Manage the information desk, deliver cards, flowers, and care packages, and transfer incoming calls to patient rooms, physician offices, and hospital services. Provide accurate directions to patients and visitors.

How do I become a Volunteer?

  • Schedule Volunteer Interview with the Volunteer Coordinator.
  • Complete a drug screening provided by TriStar Summit at the time of your interview.
  • Obtain immunizations.
  • Attend Orientation for TriStar Summit and Volunteer Services.
  • Begin volunteering and serving others at TriStar Summit! Out of appreciation for your services, TriStar Summit also offer many added benefits for our volunteers!

Obtain Immunizations

TriStar Summit requires that all volunteers have an annual TB skin test. TriStar Summit will provide TB skin tests during orientation and will pay for the test based on the fulfillment of the volunteer commitment.

All hospital volunteers, unless born before 1956, must provide documentation of the following immunizations:

  • MMR#1
  • MMR#2
  • Varicella #1
  • Varicella #2
  • TB Skin Test record (if given in the past 30 days)

These records may be obtained from the physician who administered the vaccines, school records, or an immunization card from your physician. Please provide a copy to the Volunteer Services Coordinator.

Orientation for Volunteers

Every new volunteer will attend a general TriStar Summit orientation facilitated by our Human Resources department. This training will provide an extensive overview of our hospital, policies and procedures, ethics and compliance training, volunteer responsibilities and expectations, infection control, confidentiality guidelines, and information about interacting with our patients, visitors, staff, and other volunteers.

Orientation is mandatory and offered once a month.
